Pranu Muttedu Park

Also called the Sardinian Stonehenge, Pranu Muttedu (the plain of the myrtle), is a place of great religious importance linked to the cult of the dead: about 60 menhirs, concentrated in about 200 thousand square meters on a sandstone plain, distributed according to an astral logic: in pairs, in alignments and in small groups; a necropolis of the late Neolithic and on the Roccione Genna Accas a series of small tombs dug into the rock, called the domus de Janas (fairy houses) of previous age.

I LIKE IT BECAUSE: you are struck by a magical, silent atmosphere, impregnated with the smells of Mediterranean scrub, warm and intense colors such as cork oaks and sandstone that will leave you breathless if you are lucky enough to stay until sunset

RECOMMENDED FOR: those who love a mystical and “mysterious” archeology that takes you on a journey to our most primitive past.

DISTANCE: 45 km from the village (50 min by car)

The ancient Roman road between Nora and Bithia

Among the most suggestive itineraries to follow in Sardinia, there is the Roman road that once connected the ancient city of Nora with the port of Bithia, in the locality of Chia. It consists of one of the few road routes of Roman times, still present in the territory Sardinian, which maintains a short stretch of almost intact paving. The route winds alternating coastal stretches overlooking the sea, which allow glimpses of the enchanting coves below, but not easily accessible due to the slope of the slope. The surrounding vegetation is almost made up of Mediterranean maquis, with sporadic presence of strawberry trees, eucalyptus, holm oaks and pines. The itinerary concludes with a visit to the promontory of the Tower of Chia, where the Aragonese tower of 1600 stands, built to defend the coast from pirates.

The caves of Su Marmuri

A perfect trip on a day without sun, a magical experience that will allow you to penetrate the bowels of the earth. Excavated in the calcareous heel of Ulassai, from an underground river that descends to a depth of 130 meters. about 200 steps created on the debris that covered the entrance to the cave. It extends for about 1 km on a flat terrain crossed by wooden walkways that allow us to pass through rooms of rare beauty, and spectacular in their size (even 70 m long and 30 m high) enriched with calcitic concretions, stalactites, stalagmites , trays and columns of various shapes and sizes. A curiosity: an enthusiastic customer told me that for those like him who is a lover of “Il Signore degli Anelli” the cave reminded him very much of the place where the orcs are born. Seeing is believing!!!!!

I LIKE IT BECAUSE: It is a “living” cave, in continuous evolution, and you see it and feel it through the continuous dripping of water, the only sound beyond your steps that accompanies you during the visit.

RECOMMENDED FOR: those who want to admire the art of nature in all its aspects.

Su Motti

A true open-air museum and one of the naturalistic and archaeological attractions of the Sarcidano, in the central-southern part of Sardinia, to discover the island’s prehistory. In the park you will find some single-tower nuraghe and, above all, a hypogeum necropolis of about fifteen domus de Janas, prenuragic tombs excavated in the rocky walls of sa Carona Arrubia and in large basalt boulders. Around the large stones the popular memory has developed fantastic stories, including the story of the evil giant Impolla, a local symbol. The legends have been handed down orally and envelop the prehistoric remains with a mysterious aura.

The sacred well

The sacred well of Santa Cristina, in the municipality of Paulilatino, is one of the most beautiful examples of the Island. Built in local basalt, the well temple consists of a stairwell with a trapezoidal trunk section with projecting wall hangings, an hypogeal cell turned to ogive, made with overlapping concentric rings in the typical isodoma technique and a vestibule, embraced by a themenos that delimits the sacred area.

Archaeological Area “Su Nuraxi”

Visiting Barumini and its territory means discovering a world rich in history and tradition. The most important of the testimonies of this glorious past is undoubtedly the Su Nuraxi archaeological area. Discovered and brought to light during the 1950s, during the excavations conducted by the great archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu, the area consists of an imposing complex nuraghe, built in various phases starting from the fifteenth century BC, and by a large village of huts developed all around during the following centuries. A unique place of its kind and therefore, since 1997, recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage of Humanity.

I LIKE IT BECAUSE: It is a “living” cave, in continuous evolution, and you see it and feel it through the continuous dripping of water, the only sound beyond your steps that accompanies you during the visit.

NURAGHE ARRUBIU

The nuraghe Arrubiu (red nuraghe in Sardinian) is a nuragic complex located in the municipality of Orroli in the province of Southern Sardinia. It owes its name to the characteristic red color due to the lichens that cover it and is the largest and most complex nuraghe of Sardinia and one of the major protohistoric monuments in the whole of Western Europe. “Gigante Rosso” as its structure far outstrips monumentally all the nuraghi scientifically investigated to date and because the various shades of red lichens color the surfaces of its walls.

I LIKE IT BECAUSE: It is a cave “Alive”, in continuous evolution, and you see it and feel it through the continuous dripping of the water, the only sound beyond your steps that accompanies you during the visit.

RECOMMENDED FOR: who wants to admire the art of nature in every its appearance.
